How many cookies can you have running from your site for one machine? Do they sometimes overlap even if they are given different names?

It says here (http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/98/29/index1a_page8.html?tw=programming) that each domain is allotted 20 cookies. That site I gave you is a great tut on cookies through JS, though I like cookies in php much better!

well, after i found out that a browser can only have 300 cookies, i somehow felt like it isn't wise to use'em, so i'm mainly using sessions. just my own thing of course, most people are fine with cookies.
what u can do is make a cookie array, so that u can have different cookies in one variable, and the browser will consider it just one. i know at least that can be done in PHP.

Each domain can set up to 20 cookies, containing up to 4K of data (that's 4k in total, not 4k each). afaik, how you set cookies (js or php) makes no difference to these figures.
