Opening Quark Express file?

Anyone got any idea how I can get an Quark Express file opened and changed to a format that Fireworks can read?

You don't have many options -- Quark was not built to be very compatible with other machines... it is also a strictly printing program, so I have a couple options for you:

1. You can save the file as an eps (save pages as eps -- under file), and then open that eps either in photoshop and convert it to a rasterized image like a jpeg or tiff. Fireworks will be able to read that transfer.

2. You can open it in Freehand: since that is also a macromedia product, it will transfer easily. However, since most people don't have freehand, you can open it in illustrator as well and export it as a tiff, jpeg, etc.

3. If you are using Quark 5, you have the capability to save pages as html (though they don't work well). You can then open up pieces in fireworks.

... to recap, your best bet is to save page as eps and then open it up in illustrator or photoshop and turn it into a more 'native' file that Fireworks can use (it can pretty much read just about anything... it may also read an eps now, but I haven't used it for a year now). Saving as an eps is the key.

Not quite sure how I'd do that...I can't save the file as an eps file, as I can't open it. I don't have Quark. I just got the image sent to me to work on.

Ohhhh.... you can't open it bud. If you want, I can transfer it for you, but that's totally up to you.

Quark only opens quark, plain and simple.

I work for BelAire Displays -- we do all the signs for GAP, Banana, Old Navy, Nike, stuff like that -- I'm there creative director, so if you want, I'll open up the thing, save it in multiple formats and send it back to you.

I was doing the inquiry for another guy in my office. By the time I mentioned it to him just now, he's already notified his client that he needs it in a different format. If, for some reason they're not able to provide it to us in a different format, I'll be bugging you to help. :)

Not a problem -- tell whoevers sending it to you that you're using it for a web media, not a print media. If they're good designers/prepress, they should know better than to mix the two.
