upgrade vista to vista sp2 breaks sound.

My Son has just upgraded his pc to vista sp2 , from vista. now he can't hear anything on you tube and can't chat to me on skype. :(

I expect it is likely a driver problem but, have any of you experienced this before and as a result, have you a solution that we can implement straightaway?

Check the device manager and see if anything is unidentified first. What are the specs on the computer? I had a lot of sound card problems on my dell studio laptop on XP, and on Vista when I finally gave up on XP. It may be as simple as going out to the manufacturer of your sound card and grabbing the newest driver.

The OEM will probably have drivers on their website and you should have an installation disc full of them.

I actually experienced this from a driver update from Windows Update but not from installing SP2 itself so its likely a driver that was pushed through windows update that your son installed and its not playing nice. I suggest going to the manufacturer of the system and reinstalling their driver.
