Hello,
In the recent couple weeks, the unique hits I am getting increased by almost 100%, from around 150 a day to almost 300 a day. I am not complaining but I dont have any idea where they are coming from. I was just updating my site as usual and I checked the site statistics and backlins and did not see anything out of ordinary or added. Any ideas how did this happen?

No idea how it happened, nor will I ever I don't think, but set up Google Analytics and you'll never have a question about this ever again.

http://www.google.com/analytics/I already have it. And it shows pretty much the same results as statcounter.com

I'm wondering if your able to fully utilize analytics then, you should be able to decipher exactly where the additional hits are coming from.

do you know some programming?

maybe write a basic script to log all incoming hits and save the HTTP_REFERRAL data to file and take a look at it a week later? this would be more accurate data than google analytics.

what do you use for site statistics? awstat for example have a section where it show form where visitors come. Also is a difference between hits and visits. When a page grow the number of hits for a single visit can be large. With 50 hits on a page( about 50-60 K for that page), 300 hits means only 6 visits, :)
