The only way that I could get it right, was to re-instal Windows 7. Fortunately,it let me do an upgrade and I lost nothing.
Now works fine. Gadgets can be all taken from the screen and replaced with a sinle click. And it is not a hack.

As most of you will know, I have been trying to get the sidebar back to use on Windows 7. My main reason was because, withthe sidebar, I can remove/replace the gadgets with a single click. With seven gadgets it can be a real pain to remove/replace them one at a time.
I have subsequently discovered that it is possible to do this with Windows 7 without the sidebar. But, surprisingly, it works on my laptop but not on my Desktop. Both are 64bit machines and both have the same retail version of W7 in them. Even used the same disk.

On the laptop, if I right click on the desktop; a panel comes up with among other options is one marked 'view'. Clicking this gives the option (on the laptop) toot display the gadgets.
On the desktop this option is missing. Has anyone firstly, the possibility to check this out and also does anyone know how to get the desktop the same as the laptop. There doesn't appear to be a logical reason for this odd behaviour. Extra Brownie points for a winning answer.:D
