Both my cd-rom and burner stopped working. The error said that the driver files had been corrupted. I got a friend of mine to email me cdrom.sys and replaced mine, but didn't work. Is there anywhere where I can download the standard windows XP cd-rom driver. Or could someone tell me exactly what to pull off the winXP cd, then I could pass it over by floppy or net share.
Thanx.

you can normally look up the CDrom driver from the maker but you need to know the information about it. If you know the numbers and whatnot from the driver you could go to the makers webpage and do a search for it and then d/l the correct drivers for your OS. It think I did that for my DVD drive once.

All you should need to do is simply start the device manager in XP, delete the CD drive and then reboot. During the reboot XP should discover the CD drive again and load new copies of those driver files.

tried removing it, but when it restarts, it just reinstalls the corrupted file.

can't update the generic driver.
I'm gonna throw the XP cd on my spare hard drive and bring it over to the guys house.

okay dokay, but the easiest way is going to the manufacturer's web site and getting the drivers from them....

Forget it. Now it's not detecting any hard drives. I think I need to get a new board.

This may be too late, but http://www.driverupdate.com/drivers/ should have a driver for your drive.
You might also like to look at this: http://www.bootdisk.com/readme.htm#cdromdos it shows you how to use a CD Rom in Dos. You could maybe use a bootdisk with a CD Rom driver on and run the XP disk from there..
