I know I can set up a network with ethernet cards, but can I do the same via USB ports?

Yes, you need special cables to do it.

They are becoming very popular and you can buy them in a lot of stores now days, well at least you can in Australia.

never heard of USB going wireless otherwise printers and other tools would not need to be so damn close to the computer or tied to them that is....
