Hello i was wondering if anyone knew of any tutorials that would show me how to make a chat system like the one on facebook, I would buy one from like comet or one of those companies but i dont have the money to be spending on those. Thanks for any help!

I created a clone of that a while back. It's more Javascript, AJAX, than PHP. The php is some simple inserts, and mysql stuff.

How about taking a page from your own book, isn't this your signature:

GOOGLE IS YOUR BEST FRIEND.

It was for a client so I can't give the script away. However I'll tell you this, cosmetically is the toughest part. I'm sure there's free tuts for the cosmetic part anyway, but to get it exact is really tough. There's a lot of things we needed to take into account when creating our clone, like, have to many boxes open for the width of the bar, how to reopen windows on a refresh, how to restore convos. This type of chat system proved to be one of the toughest kind because theres so many factors you need to think about. But it was almost all managed with javascript, the JS file ended up being 30,000kb. Only one relatively small php file.

Well the one 30k KB file was just used the for chat's cosmetics, and cookie handling. With the obvious ajax functionality. Technically it's a small project for a chat program, but the amount of javascript needed was a LOT.
