greens85 09-03-2009, 04:38 PM Hi All,
I'm looking to add a feature on my website where visitors can request an interview at a certain time. I've done a quick google and seen many a few things like room booking systems (for hotels mainly).
I realise this would probably be beyond my coding ability so I was wondering if any one knew of any open source scripts etc. What I need it to do is:
- Show all the dates in the years (by month)
- Have the calendar show each hourly time slot e.g. 14.00-15.00 etc.
- Show when interviews are already scheduled
- When a slot is free, allow the users to select that time slot
Not got a clue how to even start such a thing! Can anybody get me going on this?
Many thanks
mOrloff 09-03-2009, 04:46 PM Check into google calendars.
They can be embedded in your site, and I'm pretty sure they have most of that functionality.
And ... it's FREE!

greens85 09-03-2009, 04:52 PM Thanks for your reply, this is what I'm taking about but I think it had a couple of issues.
It seems to me like they have no restrictions on them. Therefore if i was to place this on my website then anyone would be able to put them self in for an interview without it being approved by me!
It also looks like you can drag appointments around etc.
Not sure if there are ways to change this!
Phil Jackson 09-03-2009, 04:53 PM I have recently created such a script (w w w . t h e m o b i l e m a k e o v e r . c o m).
There are things you must take into consideration. How long the interview initially would take, opening hours, saturday and sunday bookings, bot invasions (would suggest signup and login feature before able to book), time collisions and terms and conditions. Think about it before you go in all guns blazing.
greens85 09-03-2009, 04:57 PM Hi Phil,
The URL doesn't seem to work
The interview booking system will certainly be sitting behind a secure login area as a bare minimum!
Just don't really know where to begin with a task this large!
Cheers

greens85 09-03-2009, 05:06 PM I have signed up, but don't seem to have been sent a password
Phil Jackson 09-03-2009, 05:10 PM i have sent you your details as you have not received them yet. Please do not book an appointment!
greens85 09-03-2009, 05:13 PM Don't worry, I just want to see the functionally of it etc.
Much appreciated!
Still no sign of any login details... perhaps I mistyped my email address?
Phil Jackson 09-03-2009, 05:17 PM ertrret
greens85 09-03-2009, 05:18 PM Yep thats correct but would you mind deleting it, just incase people start spamming?
Thanks, still no details... do you have a demo account I could use or something similar?
Phil Jackson 09-03-2009, 05:22 PM was my fault, there was a typo on a variable (ooops!) have you received my PM
greens85 09-03-2009, 05:24 PM Not yet.... seems as though im not having much success with mail today! :(
Phil Jackson 09-03-2009, 05:28 PM iv'e sent it again.
greens85 09-03-2009, 05:46 PM Hi Phil,
I've had a look around that... very nice!
Is almost exactly what I'm looking to build. Did you build this yourself or was it open source?
Phil Jackson 09-03-2009, 05:57 PM (shhhhhh dont tell but) I downloaded a calender script but it wasn't entirely what i needed. I had to edit it to the add links on the calender and to make it only add the links to current or future dates and for it to spit out those dates into the address bar so i could do something with it. Some other things also but cant remember what. It was a calender just to tell you the date. So it needed some work.
greens85 09-04-2009, 12:28 PM Phil,
Would you be kind enough to give me a link to this script? It would be a nice basis to begin developing what I need to do!
Thanks
