Very many of the sidebar gadgets will not load into my 64 bit PC and give "Unspecified error".
Am I missing something here. Is there a seperate source of 64bit gadgets or is there something that I should know?
Thanks in advance.:D
Frank

Windows 7 is still in RC at present, due for release in the UK next month i believe.
To be honest, I dont like the sidebar personally (less startup items the better imo :D) so im not sure. Will add it tonight and post back if all ok.
Are all the items not loading or just some?

bazz: I got up at 4.30 am. Just could not get back to sleep. Just an old-age thing.
Thanks noneforit
Most of them do not load.
My version of Windows 7 is virtually the same as the retail version. The iso was marked (retail)
c:\aaa\7100.0.090421-1700_x64fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culxfrer_en_dvd.iso
I have a widescreen monitor and the sidebar completes the fill of the screen. Otherwise I get aspect ratio problems. Also, one can get rid of all the gadgets by collapsing the sidebar, Bring it back just as easily. I do not have start up speed problems with my PC; only with this ancient body of mine!

Build 7100 definitely isn't RTM. I thought the sidebar was removed?

[I put the sidebar back. I rather like it.
I had the same problem with the gadgets using Windows Vista 64 bit Ultimate.
A few work but most do not. I wondered if there is a work around.
It's usually the ones that I want that refuse to work.
Typical.

The gadgets are still there. They are just more flexible in position so technically the sidebar isn't really gone. Everything still loads just like it was the sidebar. As to the gadgets themselves while its likely its an issue of 64bit vs 32bit it may not be. Most gadgets are written using javascript, html, and css, along with some other language, possible vb.

Aero, I would find that acceptable if I could get rid of the gadgets with one click as with the sidebar. It is a nuisance otherwise and I have just one gadget now.
Also I made a mistake and bought a wide screen monitor. This leaves me with a one and a half inch gap which the sidebar filled exactly.
Anyway, I have now put W7 64bit ultimate back and I will try to get the sidebar working again. Wish me luck.

For what it's worth, I have never had any problem with any gadget in Vista Ultimate x64. They should work as well as IE7 running jscript and it could well be that it runs on wow64 anyway so that it is actually running in a 32bit context.
The only gadgets I would think you would have a problem with would be using ActiveX/COM components from 32bit DLLs in a 64bit context.
The alternative is that the gadgets you are using, which do not work on Windows 7 or on Vista are just plain broken.

The same gadgets do in fact work on my 32 bit laptop. They do not work on my 64 bit laptop or the 64 bit desktop. The clock and the calendar work OK, but not the close down devices. Not one of the close down devices works on the 64bit machines but all are OK on the 32 bit.
Very frustrating.

Frank, I'm beginning to suspect you have more computers in your possession currently than I've ever owned!

I have three laptops and two desktops. I have previously given away one desktop and one laptop. Before that I had an Amiga and before that an Acorn Atom. Also I had a Sinclair and a BBC microcomputer.
I have always been interested in technology even before the war. In those days my most advanced possession was a 15 inch slide rule when I was at Kingston Technical College.
I must have spent a small fortune on it all.
