Hi -

I am looking for a partner to setup a new company which sells custom products online. The site would feature several customizable products such as apparel, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, ect. The site would have a few innovative features that I haven't found on any of the competitors websites (I'll discuss these features privately only with those that are interested in a partnership). For an idea of how difficult the site would be to build and what skills it would require (particularly to build the t-shirt designer app) please see the following links:

http://www.cafepress.com/

My responsibilities would be to handle all of the business aspects of the project, which primarily would be marketing the website and dealing with suppliers.

Your responsibilities would be to build and maintain the website. I can help with the high level planning of the website, but you would be responsible for all of the actual programming.

My web design experience is limited to small personal websites using web developer express (so next to none).

The business plan does not require you to invest capital. Your only investment would be your time to develop the site.

Requirements: US citizen (preferably MI resident), 18 years or older, web design skills to develop a site similar to the ones posted above, the time to work on a project this size.

I hope to find someone with a passion for developing web applications that would be interested in designing the website for fun (with the profits being icing on the cake).

If interested, message me with any questions you may have, an estimate of how long it would take you to design the site, number of hours your can dedicate to the project per week, your web development skills, and your location.

Thanks.

Steve

no it would be a partnership. the profits from the business would be split between us 49% (web developer)/51% (me).

Anytime you have a 51/49 partnership (or similar split), the partner with the lesser interest is effectively an employee without the benefit of guaranteed wages. Every business decision is effectively that of the partner with the greater interest (51% overrules 49% everytime).

correct. I'm looking for someone that knows how to develop a website not run a business.

Good luck finding an employee whom you don't have to pay until, and if, such time and in such an amount as you determine.

What you really need is an angel investor. Angel investors are in the business of funding startup companies, and will give you the funds you need to pay someone to develop your website. You can then give 49% of your company's equity to your angel investor, in return for the risk and potential reward involved with a startup company. You shouldn't expect a website developer to inherit that risk.
