why should i care about flex?

i was poking around the adobe site looking at some examples of flex out of curiousity when it occurred to me... it looks like this is just a sort of lazy way to generate sort of pretty content.

help me out, what does flex do better than anything else?

well, its great for RIA and widgets among many other things. for instance here is a small tutorial i put together for managing a database with a editable data grid.
