View Full Version : Row Counter

Hello, I have made this row counter and would like some help, I would like to align the output to the right side of the screen and infront of the numbers add
'Number of Members:'

Here is the script:

$result = mysql_query("select count(*) as rowcount from notes");
$row = mysql_fetch_array($result);
echo $row['rowcount'];

I think the echo needs to be written differently.

Hmm interesting I think I might have a solution for you. If I find it I will edit this post.

You do not off the top of your head?

bucket

I think I have gotten it:

<?php
$result = mysql_query("select count(*) as rowcount from notes");
$Count = mysql_result($result, 0);
echo "Number of Members: $Count";
?>

All I need to do is align it to the right.

$result = mysql_query("select count(*) as rowcount from notes");
$row = mysql_fetch_array($result);
echo "Number of members: " . $row['rowcount'];

the period (.) is a concatenation symbol, which means it is used to combine different things into one string.

as far as alignment goes, do that with HTML/CSS

$query = mysql_query("SELECT * from `notes` order by id");

Now it seems to not be showing up at all

<?php
$result = mysql_query("select count(*) as rowcount from notes");
$Count = mysql_result($result, 0);
echo "<span style=\"text-align:right\">" . $row['rowcount'] . "</span>";
?>

whizard

Change $row['rowcount'] to $Count.

because you're using $Count = mysql_result($result, 0); instead of $row = mysql_fetch_array($result);

Hm.. still nothing, this is the updated code:

$query = mysql_query("SELECT * from `notes` order by id") or die(mysql_error());

That will give a MySQL error if there is one.

Dan

There are about 5 rows there and the table exists.

This one works:

<?php
$result = mysql_query("select count(*) as rowcount from notes");
$Count = mysql_result($result, 0);
echo "Number of Members: $Count";

But I want to align the text to the right of the page.

EDIT: NEVER MIND IT DOES NOT WORK EITHER.

Yes but that comes AFTER the code in question. It must be connected FIRST, then you can query.

Take what Phil posted but then remove the $con and $db lines and move the require("../inc/config.php"); line to the top.

That depends on the HTML, but I would put it in a span and then style that span with this CSS:

Phil Jackson

you would have had to remove as here no variable is set:

mysql_connect("localhost", "******", "******8") or die(mysql_error());
mysql_select_db("******")
or die(mysql_error());

could be:

$con = mysql_connect("localhost", "******", "******8") or die(mysql_error());
mysql_select_db("******")
or die(mysql_error());

and use
mysql_close($con) to close that conection only (if you have multipul connections.

Lol.. This is very confusing, but I would have to say good exercise for me and you guys?

Phil Jackson

could you copy again:

for&nbsp;($count&nbsp;=&nbsp;0;$count<count($_POST['delchk']);$count++)&nbsp;

Lol.

I have tried it, but the script is still blank.

Anyone have any clue what is going on?

I think this is the correct way:

for ($count = 0;$count<count($_POST[delchk]);$count++)

Phil Jackson

i must leave you with it (until tommorow if you have not sorted it) but you must have something previous loaded in with php that is using die() with mysql_error() and your errors are not showing. Change all you can to die("this is an error".mysql_error());
