View Full Version : Computer, Router, Connection Problem?

I no longer know what to think. I either have an internal problem with my connection to the net or there is a problem with the router, or there is no problem and the "Page Load Error" is real.
Sometimes I have to click on a link three or more times for the page to load. My connection says it is "very good" @ 24mps, connected. It realy should be "Excellent" because I am less than 50' from the router. I should get better than 24mps because the router is connected to my DSL modem and that should be around 700mps. I think the router maxes out at 54mps (Linksys, Wireless-G, 2.4gHz). I'm running Windows XP, SP3 on a Dell laptop, Vostro 1510.
I can't find anything on my system to help me identify the problems or to see if there is something set wrong that causes the problems. I use both Firefox (primary browser) and IE (only when I have to). Any idea what I can look at or what I can do to confirm it is or isn't a problem I can solve?

Thanks all,

Spookster

Have you tried connecting your PC directly to the router and see if the problem persists? If not then I would look closer at the router.

Have you been running on any computer connected to the router a program like BitTorrent or any program that will create lots of connections? Those Linksys routers a prone to connection issues where it seems like the internet is down or really slow because the router doesn't properly flush dead connections. Power cycling the router usually cures it.

Thank you both for your answers. I did recycle my router and it began as 54mbps with an excellent connection and now it is down to 34mbps with a very good connection. It seems to be holding there. I'll watch and see what happens.

Try a factor reset on the modem and the router (not just a power cycle). My modem refused to connect to Steam, FTP servers, torrents etc until I did a factor reset.
