Hello,
Does anyone know a program that will get rid of all unused files and registry keys???
I'm sort of a developer/gamer and install/uninstall alot of programs that always leave their trails...
I've notice the more times that i do this the smaller my free space gets. even though I have the same number of programs that i started out with.. I tried registry healer but that only fixes the registry.. and sometimes messes it up...
Anyone know of such a program???

System Mechanic might be down your street: http://www.iolo.com/

norton system works might do that. Last time I used it, it had a function to clean up disk space or something that deleted all files that aren't referenced. I don't know much about the registry cleanup though.

If you right click a drive in My Computer, you can do a disk cleanup. Not sure how discriminate Windows is about which files it deletes though...

Windows disk cleanup will only delete temporary files, and empty the browser cache, and gets user confirmation first. norton's windoctor will take care of some registry entries, but not all of them. you might try this (http://www.theabsolute.net/sware/#clnsys) , which is scans the windows\system directory for .dlls that aren't linked to any programs. unfortunately, it only works with Win95/98; it doesn't support anything newer. i also suggest clonespy (http://www.clonespy.de/english/), which scans your computer for files that are duplicates of each other. there's also Regclean (http://www.google.com/search?q=regclean&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0), which Microsoft makes, which scans the registry for erroneous or useless keys.

I might also suggest not to install so many programs... But, people can't change

Well that would be nice. But my child and I are gamers and being a developer, it's a little hard to not to install and uninstall programs. For one there are a lot of games out there and two there are alot of different types of programs that I must be able to test. Even with an 80GB, there's not enough space..
But anyhow.... thanks for the suggestion...

Well, it's not the way I like (with my 20GB hd) but whatever makes you happy ;)
