Unwelcome pop up

I have just commissioned a new PC. It has XP Pro with SP2.

For some reason, on boot up, a window appears "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard". I wouldn't mind this, except that about one time in ten only part of the window appears so that I cannot X it away, and I have to shut the PC down and start again.

I can't see why this window should appear at all.

Could someone tell me how to permanently get rid of it, please ?

What new hardware did it find?

open device manager and look for the unknown hardware.

This is just the problem - there definitely is no new hardware - it's a brand new machine and nothing has been added. Also I can't get it to tell me what it thinks it has found.

OK thanks - I'll do this.

In the meantime the machine developed a fault and had to go back to the local workshop, but if the problem persists I'll follow your advice and let you know.
