ive tried everything i can to figure out what is wrong with my computer. i have tested bandwidth and it says 10mbit. also, my Downloads go very fast. however, no matter what browser im using, the pages load slower than dialup.... i have no proxies, no firewalls, no spyware/viruses (scanned with many different programs and removed them), DNS is set to "automatically detect". im on a wireless router and my gf's laptop is on the same router and works perfectly.... please help me figure out what is wrong? thanks

Have you tried a different browser?

Sorry I missed that. If you are using it on the wireless, try plugging into the router via an Ethernet cable (Make sure you disconnect from the wireless when you do) and see if that helps.

I dont know about IE or any of the other but try this in firefox

in the address part of your browser type

about:config

hit enter, now serach for the following

network.http.pipelining and network.http.proxy.pipelining and set them both to true (right click and toggle).

now search for network.http.pipelining.maxrequest, and change its value to something higher, 30-40 maybe.

after all that restart firefox, and you should have a fast internet browsing..

if you are using Linux (only if your using Linux) set browser.cache.disk.parent_directory to /dev/shm create it as a string if you have to

If you run out of options, you could waste a bit of time installing Wireshark on the GF's computer and see if your lappy happens to be spewing mystery packets. I doubt you'll find anything, though.

Is her DNS set up the same as yours? Do you get the same performance even when near the wireless access point (like same room)? If oracleguy's last suggestion (hardwire) didn't show any difference, it has to be a software issue. Which scanner softare did you use? Did you also use a rootkit scanner?

i fixed it. went to Diagnose And Repair on the wireless connection icon and a couple of services in windows service manager were turned off so i turned them on and ran the diagnosis tool and it fixed the problem. thanks tho
