Justame, you are probably scaring Phool with justamese™ - no one can be ready for that at such an early stage... ;)

Ok, I've given this issue a lot of thought recently, and the bad news is, there probably won't be a general discussion area in the near future. The two dominate reasons are:

1) Lack of server resources. A "Pit" category can easily increase the activity level here on CF by 50% (based on the old WA forum numbers), which would really be pushing this server's tolerance level. Furthermore, I most likely will be moving another site to this server soon (to be cost conscious), and with that move, I must be even more sensitive to the available resources at my disposal.

2) I still envision a "Pit" being a nightmare to moderate, with some of that bad behavior easily spilling over to the other categories. Then there's the invariable creation of pointless threads and replies that do little but waste other people's time and the server's bandwidth. It's mentally exhausting for mods and I to moderate these threads, and I suspect to the people reading them as well.

This is probably the first time I've said more conclusively the fate of a "Pit" area in the foreseeable future. Sorry for the bad news to those looking forward to it, but I believe this decision probably is for the best in the long run, no matter your current thoughts.

That'd most likely be my decision. Very sensible. :)

WA gives up his server resources and time, which does equate to money, for this forum. So he basically pays for the forum and its upkeep. so WA is justified in saying no to the return of the pit.

general chit chat does go on a little in threads, also PM's are nice.
like justame said, we will still be here, even if CF is "pitless".

I actually prefer "pitless" forums.

Over in webhostingtalk, its like all people do is post in the Lounge, and no where else.
