I'm going to get my mobo and processor soon, now I need to know what motherboards or chipsets are compatible with a P4 2.4, 2.53, 2.66 and 2.88Ghz cpus.
I'll be wanting DDR, PC2700 I can get cheaply and easy.
As for onboard stuff, audio and ethernet would be good.
AGP 8X must have.
Hmm... Serial ATA wouldn't be essential but I'd like to hook up a drive via serial in the future.
Although I don't need an oboard video card they seem to be on most mobos so I woudn't care if it did or didn't have one.

I found one that is close to what I wanted, Asus P4S8X..
Has anyone got one or know of any problems with them?

Question about mobos and the case.
You know how at the back of the case there are the openings for the motherboard ports. Can you take out the pre cut piece of metal with the openings to put a different one in there?
It's just that I was looking at a motherboard and it has a diferent design to the current spaces on my case.

Dude, always buy your case after you buy the motherboard. I think hte precut metal will probably be changable, depends totally on the case itself.

Well I checked out the case and it looks removeable. Plus I was just reading through a magazine and found that a lot of the P4 boards are that design anyway..
The case itself is a designed for the new mobos and came with a 400w PSU with the auxillary power connector needed by the p4 mobos so it will be fine..no probs..

I just pushed it a little bit and it popped right out, when back in just as easy!

Also a thing to note is that ASUS has a cool feature that I forget the exact name but it has a standard 4-pin power plug on the motherboard so you don't have to have a P4 power supply with that special 12v connector. I know quite a few ASUS motherboards have the feature but you'd want to check ASUS's website cuz it would be listed on there.
And yes usually all ATX cases have a removeable backbone because depending on the features like onboard NIC and stuff the port pattern can change a little bit.

Do most motherboards come with one or do you have to get one from somewhere else?

Most will come with the plate. I've not had a mobo without one anyway.
