Visual J++

I tried learning Visual J++, first with a book called "Inside Visual J++ 6.0 Developer's Workshop" (by the Microsoft Press), and the programs didn't compile right (code in book didn't work?) - also, the code wasn't analyzed too good. I have another book called "Microsoft Visual J++ Unleased", which I started but came nowhere near finishing (got about 3 chapters into it). I decided that I really didn't like Java a whole lot, but that was mainly because I didn't understand any of it.

1) Do you guys think I would have trouble with it after learning ANSI C?
2) What do you guys think of it? Is it a good language (of course when I say language, I mean Java) for app dev? Or is it what I thought it was (lame!)? :-)

if you know C or C++ then java isn't that hard to learn, its just alot more anal about the code. I can't say its a bad language to know but other then JavaScript I don't know the where else I would need it.

If you are going to learn Java, it would probably be a good idea to stear clear off any Visual implimentations of it....
