I have complete some C and Java programming (http://www.gatewaytechnolabs.com/lang,en/technology/java_j2ee_application_development.html) and now I am interested in graphics and game design. What do I need to do in order to pursue this further? If any one can share any information regarding this with me it would be appreciated.

You could read a book on game design.

Unlike being an artist or a programmer, you can't really be hired as a game designer unless you have proven successful.

How this really works is you work for a game company as someone on the development team (figure out what you like to do). As you work and contribute ideas to the projects, you might be able to nudge yourself into that position over time as they see that your ideas work. Games are costly to make and a few bad ideas on your part will send you packing your bags.

As game designer, you're the top dog and when you're on top, the only direction to move is down. It's a very hard spot to be in.
