View Full Version : MS Word: Saving as PDF - loss of quality in images

Hi all,

When I export a MS Word file as PDF format, images in it are "compressed" or something, and the image quality comes out very average, where it's fine in Word. I've checked through Word's options and there are none there or on the Save As dialog pertaining to image quality when saving...

Any help?
Thanks
Robbie

I'm not sure what your set up is, but I use freeware to convert .doc to .pdf. There are a number of sites you can do this, I use http://www.doc2pdf.net/ most of the time. good luck!

It probably depends on what you use. I use CutePDF Writer (http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp), which is also free and works very well. Like most PDF creation software it installs as a virtual printer so you can create PDFs from anything that has a print button.

Hi, try opening your Word document in OpenOffice and then export it or save it to PDF. You can also change the settings on Openoffice to get better quality for your images.

Hi, Scrowler
you may try Altsoft Xml2PDF 2009 formatting engine to convert your Word to PDF (http://www.alt-soft.com/products_Word2PDF.aspx). you can set there general output options for images (namely resolution).

I'd prob recommend going with what csscoll said myself, OO has a lot better support for pdf conversion than word does
