I'm thinking of going to XP Home. I'm using XP Pro right now--a copy that fell off the back of truck, but when I tried to download a service pack recently, it said my product key was not valid.

Anyway, due to the cost of actually buying a copy of XP Pro, I may be forced to go with XP Home. My question is, has anyone used XP home with ASP? I understand it doesn't have IIS or PWS, but I'm wondering if you can just install it seperately.

as far as i know, you can't. Not IIS anyway.

To download PWS, start here

(read there comment on PWS; ... poor mans server ... not fit for production ... (as if IIS is :D )

If there is a computer store in your area that sells OEM software, you can get full version of Win XP Pro for 150. It just comes with a CD, a product key, and a getting started guide. All shrink-wraped with no box. Most of the time they are the smaller stores or the "hole in the wall" kind. Places like Best Buy obviously don't sell them. :)

Here is one of the stores near me, www.iguanamicro.com they can ship it to you.

However you can't call Microsoft for support though because its an OEM version, however I doubt you'd ever need to.

I thought about that. I found one on Pricewatch for $134, with free shipping.

Now, I just need to convince the wife that it's worth $134 to get that annoying error message to stop popping up on the screen....as well as being able to download service packs and have a clean conscience.

At least about my operating system...*cough...cough*

If you have kids at school you can always buy a copy of XP Pro Academic version - same product - much cheaper :D

LOL.... *content edited*

P.S. I REALLY hate to censor anything (I absolutely abhor censorship in any form)... but it's my job here, and in this atmosphere I think it's justified.... sorry K.
