I left my computer on a few weeks ago with my t.v. tuner on and went into town, five hours later I came home and found my computer turned off.
I had extreme difficulty booting it and when it finally came back on, I had errors on my C: drive I assume it must have been writing to my C: drive while the T.V. card was in action, but I couldn't get my NVIDIA graphics card to work anymore.
However my monitor still works through the card if the system is set to a 'Standard PCI Graphics Card (VGA)' but unfortunately I can only have a screen resolution with 16 colours.
Why can I still use the graphics card for simple display modes (see above)?
Also when my system boots the NVIDIA Garble is the first thing on the screen but when I try to re-install it it tells me that it's not present, isn't this a contradiction?
P.S. I got my C: drive sorted.

What card is it? are you running windows XP or 98/ME?
Look in device manager, control panel => system => hardware => device manager and open the "display adapters" branch, what's there? If it claims to be a standard vga adapter then you should install some drivers, preferably updated one with a setup program.
There's a range here: http://www.abitboy.com/

I'm running windows 98.
its a geforce2 mmx/400 card
in my system its showing the geforce car as a little yellow triangle next to it. and the standard vga card is above that is working properly.
When I try updating the standard vga or just re-installing the geforce, when I re-boot, windows gets to the password box and restarts using another standard vga card saying that since windows failed to initialize the geforce mmx/400 card it will never attempt to use this setting again.
I've taken it back out of the driver fail thingy so it can have another go but the same still happens.
P.S. when I try installing the drivers without the windows wizards(direct from the cd.) it says that there are no NVIDIA chips detectable on this system. I'e tried re-installing it in every possible way and even downloaded the updated drivers but to no avail.

That's worrying.
You cold try using Det Destroyer: http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/ this will remove any old files from previous drivers which should prevent any conflicts. You could then uninstall the standard VGA adapter, when you reboot, direct the wizard to the new drivers (unzipped etc). When you do this, prevent windows for searching itself, you should be able to check a box allowing you to specify the location of the drivers.

Youre right it is worrying, I cant get another display card until pay day - two weeks as my soltek motherboard doesn't have any on board display. So im stuck with just 16 colours for the nightfortnight whoopee!!
Anyway, I tried youre above suggestion but its still not having it! I've also registered a fault at the inno3d manufacturers web site but as all of the engineers are at a show or something for the next two weeks, this doesnt help at all as it says my post wont be replied to in that period.
P.S. I had a proper good play about before I opened this thread so I didn't really expect a solution. It'd just be nice to know why it still works as a basic display card and shows the NVIDIA model number and trademarks when I switch on. I'm sure youd be the same.
One more thing, I used to have a diagnostic/ hardware checking program that checked everything out from dos but I can't find it. Could you suggest anywhere to find one?? The results would then be conclussive as to wether its buggered or not!
Thanks for your feed back Mouse:thumbsup:
