View Full Version : Building A Tab Menu

Right, here's the deal:

I need to make a tab menu for my site...one of those dropdown tab menus.
I need one kinda like the one here:

www.weebls-stuff.com

(this is not false advertising or something...I want my tab menu to be the same style as the one in this site)
(the one saying "Toons" "Game's" "Peepl's Stuff" etc.)

I've tried using "View Source" but the code there is written so strangely that it's hard to understand. I tried copy pasting everything into MY code...but the results were hideous (It was built on HTML...the only thing the CSS file did was determine the background color and stuff).

I was wondering if someone could give me a little help :3

Thanks in advance!

Hello Nimrod EX,
You can grab the markup easy enough.
Use Firebug to show you the relevant CSS you need to copy.
Don't forget to grab the .js file that makes it all work.

But before you goto that extent, maybe you should ask permission from the author? (http://www.internova.co.uk/) There doesn't seem to be a copyright on it so I don't really know.

Instead, maybe you can find one that suits you from the many sites that offer them to the general public. Have you looked at http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/ yet? Google finds a lot more.

Here is a similar one, http://www.tjkdesign.com/articles/new_drop_down/default.asp

There are plenty of open-source scripts that cover this, if you are worried about copyright, then use an open version.

Umm, about that Cssplay site.

I could just slightly modify their code (change the color of the dropdown menu, change the <div tags> and change the shape of the menu (It's rounded corners and I want a square) ) and they'll never know, and it won't be theirs anymore...right?

I'm not sure what your asking here...

Stu Nichols puts menus up on that cssplay site for people to use. He's very clear about what's for sale and what's for free and spells out his limited use agreement when he wants credit.

As for modifying that other menu from the site you linked to... That is probably true. By the time you adapt it to your site you will have changed it quite a bit. Doesn't bother me if it doesn't bother you.
