Hi there. I'm a CSS newbie and I am working with Dreamweaver.

My test web site works well in IE but blows up in Firefox. In Firefox 3 and Safari, there is no scroll bar and the local links do not work. Link below is prototype - only active link is 'About'.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

As a finicky person I can not help but to notice that the banner contains not just females.

It was important to the client to show diversity.
There are a few brave men who join!

You don't need any of the position:fixed or position:relative stuff. Get rid of it all.

After you do this, you'll need to add something to the end of your code to clear the floats and show your background in FF. I used an empty div for example.

I tried something similar with the next page but I'm still having problems with formatting. When I remove all the position:relative, position:absolute statements the formatting falls apart. CSS file attached.
Here is link to htm file w/ position statements removed:

You still have all the positioning in your level2.css file:

text-align: center; /* For IE */
}
/* Container Styles */
#wrapper {

margin: 0 auto;
padding: 0;
text-align: left; /* For IE */
background-color: #fff;

Remove it and your page works fine.

Edit: Perhaps you just missed one of them when you tried taking it out. Your about page works fine with the css file you attached. Make sure you get them all.

The reasons why you do not get any scroll bars is that the page content fits on the screen without them. This will depend on how much screen area is available, which will vary between browsers and how many extra toolbars you have. With my FF (with extra toolbars), the scrollbars appear, but if I maximise (using F11) they disappear.

Hello llc,
Good job on getting all that validated! Seems to work fine here on IE7, IE8 and FF3.

On pages with longer content, your #wrapper gets pushed over the width of the scrollbar... about 17px if I remember.
The usual fix for that is to force a scrollbar, even on pages that are not long enough to require one. That stops the page from seeming to jump to the side when you click from a short page to a long page.

To have a scrollbar on all pages, add this bit in red to the top of your CSS -
/* Document Styles */
html, body {
height: 100.1%;
background: #ccc;
font: normal 10px/16px "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
color: #666;
margin: 25px;
text-align: center; /* For IE */
}

Sometimes, combining the styling for html and body can cause things to repeat... you don't have a background image there but I've seen IE8 do some unexpected things from this. You can separate them like this and it will still work -
/* Document Styles */
html {
height: 100.1%;
}
body {
height: 100.1%; background: #ccc;
font: normal 10px/16px "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
color: #666;
margin: 25px;
text-align: center; /* For IE */
}
