Site aliases, cpanel and awstats

I need to set up several domains that all serve the site content from the same server folder (the script will determine which content to serve based on the requested domain, the layout and functionality will be the same). That in itself is no problem. This issue is that my client is using cPanel to do all their site management. They want the new domains to have their own separate email and awstats, is this possible?

Ok, I have a solution but something tells me I really shouldn't do it this way - so hopefully someone can confirm/deny that.

The new domain is set up as its own account in cpanel with its own home directory. In that home directory, I have deleted the public_html folder and replaced it with a link (called public_html) to the public_html directory of the main site (and it works). Is there any reason why I shouldn't do that?
