Recently I installed the Windows7 beta on my PC. Generally I have been pleased with the experience, but I lost the network connection to my Laptop.

I have been trying on and off for three days to get it working, just the printer initially, but with no success. I have to admit to a totally poor experience with networking in general, but I have usually got it working, at least for the printer after much sweating and not a little swearing.:D
The laptop has Windows Vista Home Premium. All options have been allowed total access. I cannot even see the Laptop from the PC but I can see the PC from the Laptop.

Broadband wireless internet is working OK.

Someone please throw me a lifebelt, I'm going down for the third time!!!
Frank:eek:

I have been to the Windows 7 blog, It is obvious that it is a common problem Nobody seems to have an answer, all of the queries have a 0 (zero) in the answers column.

i use windows 7 beta at work we are a gold certified MS partner so we get all the beta .iso's way ahead of time. i am using it in a domain envirnment and can see all the other PC's. i have been running it for a few months now. have you enabled 'network discovery' in the network and sharing section?

Hello foaman.

Yes, I have done all that is required. Nothing works. I previously had Windows 7 beta on this PC talking to my Laptop with Vista on it. I installed Windows 7 on the laptop yesterday and cannot get the system to work. Mainly, all I want to use is the printer. No luck with that. The Windows 7 blog is no help. Many questions on this same subject with 0 (zero) answers even as long as three weeks ago. No one seems to know!

There obviously is some sort of problem.

Hmm, have you tried joining them to the same Homegroup?

Hi1 Cyan.

Yes I have tried as far as I can. After many hours I still cannot get it to work. One of the computers tells me that it is unable to run the network.

I have just re-installed Windows 7 on the two machines and will try again tomorrow. One of my main problems is that following the instructions, I do not get the same reference words on the forms presented, as they say. This means that i have to guess.

Obviously I am guessing wrong. It's the story of my life. Hey! Ho! Hey! Ho!, It's off to work we go.........................

I'm open to suggestions. Well most of them anyway.

Frank.(ly I'm frustrated.)

Why don't you give Microsoft a call? You can get their number from their website. They will probably want to charge you, but if you tell them it was all working right up until there was a Windows Update, it becomes their problem. Worth a try anyway.

i am not sure if they will help troubleshoot a beta product but it might be worth a call.

Thank you all, but I have chickened out and re-installed Vista.:D

I'll wait for the RC1 version of Windows 7 and try again.
