Hey, I have been working on a site called Voke, which you can find at http://somebots.com/voke. Basically, it displays information collected by a PHP-based bot using something similar to Google Suggest.

I know it doesn't have a lot of information yet but it currently collects exactly 1 fact per minute so in a month or so our database will be big.

Tell me what you think of the site and if you have any suggestions. I am looking for a new name for it and some suggestions for features.

A few thoughts:

- Consider putting an "About Voke" link on the page somewhere similar to the way Google does. I'm a little gun-shy when it comes to just typing a random question into an input field and hitting "submit," and many others out there are as well. We just like to know what we're getting into, so to speak, and to do a little research beforehand.
- I like the name. It seems to take a bit of the word "evoke" (evoking questions?) along with a visual similarity to "vox" (Latin for speak or voice). So that's good.
- For a page with so little on it, your logo needs more texture and appeal. It looks just like a word you typed in Photoshop and applied a blue outer glow to. This is really important since that one word has to communicate a lot about your page; you don't have the luxury of more content to take the edge off the logo. Google's logo has dimension to it, and a nice, subtle drop shadow. Not saying you should do the same thing, but it needs to look like more than a 5-minute Photoshop exercise.
- You have 1 validation error, by the way.

Thanks, I just had the idea of adding "Want to know more about Voke? Ask below." to right above the text field. Then I'll just add something into the database with contact info and such so it comes up like a normal question.

I'll work on the logo too. The only reason I want to change the name is because voke.com isn't available, but I can always use something slightly different.

That error is from autocomplete="off" which is used by some browsers but not a standard yet. I might take it out though and test it with some different browsers.

You can go and ask simple questions, for now. Let's say you want to know who won the Super Bowl in 1985 or something. But I will eventually expand it to have responses for dynamic things such as weather, sports scores, and times.

Keep up a good work, I am sure you can expand it overtime, and more people will use it. I haven't done a single search in any global search engine besides google for about 2-3 years, but its just me.

1) You need to put more spacing between the textbox and the copyright notice. It will look better if there is at least one line between them.

2) An about page would be a really solid idea.

3) It looks like you aren't handling your PHP errors very gracefully, in your drop down box that shows up:
Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /Volumes/Data/Web/vhost/somebots.com/voke/database.php on line 10
Search Google for "What is today\\'s d"
Warning: mysql_free_result(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /Volumes/Data/Web/vhost/somebots.com/voke/database.php on line 17

4) If you completely erase everything in the text field, the drop down stays with the last thing entered in the box. It might be nicer if it just disappears.

5) Your page doesn't work at all without javascript. And if JS is disabled the visitor is none the wiser that something is supposed to be happening.
