Hi

I have a an idea for a website. I coded a basic website, and trialled the model last year. the site worked well and made money - so i took it offline and started to rebuild it, making it much better, more interactive and able to handle much higher capacity. Unfortunately I have run into road blocks as my technical skills are not that great (just self taught basic html and css). I am looking for a partner that knows html, php, ajax, javascript etc.. to build a really interactive website. I will write the content, and work with the designer on the general layout of the site, but will be open to suggestions about specific features etc.

what does the website do?

sells legal products - the site is UK relevant only, but am happy to work with a coder of any nationality as long as english speaking. ill give further info to interested coders

what about back end?

a simple back end system will need to be built. it need not be complex

how will it work?

i have formed a UK Limited Company. The ownership of the company will remain mine, but the coder will have a formal agreement entitling them to x% of the profits as long as they continue to work for the company. The coder will be given 'view only' access to the payments system (a main brand card processor - not paypal) - they will also be able to check the companies costs against official tax records to ensure they are being paid the correct amount of money. They will be self employed and invoice the company monthly - ie the company will calculate its costs of the first of each month (for the month before), the coder will be given these, and can view last months takings via the payment processor. they will then invoice the company for the agreed % of the profits, and the company will pay monthly on a pre-determined date.

won't the work reduce after a the site is live?

no - there are many further avenues for expansion. the coder will keep his % across all operations, so pay should steadily increase month on month as more and more ventures are completed and made live

if the company makes a loss do i lose anything?

the bulk of our costs are postage which we do not incurr if we do not sell anything. If the company makes a loss the coder will not have money deducted.

if the company makes a loss due to an investment (eg makes £3000 profit but invests £5000 in extra stock) the coder will be paid based on the £3k profit. In other words - paid a % of net operating profit

will there be a formal written agreement?

yes.

if the coder is a UK resident one option would be to become a member of the board, and take ownership of a % of the company rather than the arrangements above.
