I just purchased a new HP pavilion dv7-1525dx machine for my wife, and seem to be having a little trouble in setting up printer sharing with it.

I have my HomePC running on WinXP Pro, that is connected to a Dell A960 printer. The printer itself does not have builtin wifi.

With my other laptop, that also has WinXP Pro on it, I can print from the laptop, which passes it the home pc for printing.

Now, on the new HP which has Vista on it, when I attempt to add the printer, I get an error of:

The server for 'Dell AIO Printer A960' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to search for the proper driver, click OK. Otherwise click Cancel and contact your network administrator or original equipment manufacturer for the correct printer driver.

Do I need to install the drivers on the new HP laptop that uses Vista, even though the printer is actually connected to the HomePC what uses WinXP?

I can access all the shared drives on the WinXP machine. Thus, I know its not a network issue.

Thanks
PT

Yes the drivers need to be installed on all systems that want to use that printer. It doesn't matter where its plugged into.

It is also possible that it will need a different driver on Vista than the XP version.

you cannot share an XP printer to a Vista PC. do it the other way if needed, install it on the vista, share it there and point the XP to that and it will work.
