Since I am so quick to critisize poor service, I should acknowledge when things are done in a professional manner.
I recently purchased online, direct from Dell, a new LCD monitor to replace my 17 in LCD. My old video card won't give me the native resolution of the new unit. Unwilling to change out my video card because of the age of the PC, I asked Dell to let me return the unit. They had the unit picked up by UPS at their cost and refunded me every dime I spent for the monitor. No problems, no BS. Just customer satisfaction. It's been a while since I felt as though I was treated so well.

If you want to keep the warm, fuzzy, satisfied feeling, don't ever buy a printer from them. The printer support group sucks beyond measure.
Hi, I'm glad to see you had a good experience with Dell.
My purchase from them wasn't so good. I bought a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop from them
in April 08'. I thought I was getting a good deal, until I got it and realized my deal wasn't
so good after-all. As far as reliability and craftsman-ship and specs etc, it is doing okay there (I am using it now).
But the whole sight unseen deal really isn't good overall I don't think.
It is much heavier than I realized. I read reviews before I bought it, and I read where people said it was heavy, but it is
so heavy I worry about dropping it when I have to handle it with one hand. I think I did okay on what I knew about,
like the price and the specs, but physically I think I was sent a reject. No wonder it was so cheap.
I saw shortly after I bought mine that it was no longer for sale, apparently it was a close-out.
Try looking for it now.
It has this lever sticking out the side, that I constantly worry about it catching on something.
I don't recall ever seeing the lever in photos before I bought it. I recently went to their website out of curiousity
just to see their products and prices and what-not. I couldn't believe what I saw in products and their lacking specs.
Its like 1 gb of memory is the norm and the modern amount of ram, and thats all you need.
And the prices, I'm thinking "for god sakes, we're in a recession".
Dell (I think) is like many other institutions, they want to satisfy a small percentage of customers so they can feel good about
taking full advantage of everybody else. Michael Dell is one of the richest people in the world for some reason also.
Take financial and mortgage institutions for example. Or Bernard Madoff. Madoff would've run his scheme to his
last day if he'd not been caught. He was paying selected investors with all the other investors' money while know-
ingly ruining everybody's retirement, for his own personal gain. Or an unknowing grocery store customer getting up to
the cash register with a cart full of groceries only to learn that unless they have a "shopping card" the prices are higher.
Some might think "he just has a personal problem", well, not really. I have ears and I watch television and read newspapers,
I think I have a pretty good grasp of the economy. I really don't have anything better to do than write kinda pessimisticly as I
am currently unemployed too.

Will,
I am looking at the Dell line of laptops so I'm glad you told of your experience. The unit I have now is 10+ lbs and gets heavy real quick. I need something in the 5 lb range, running win xp. I'll be diligent checking the specs. Thank you.

Andy,
Now that Dell is at some stores like Bestbuy, it might be good for a Dell shopper to have a look at it in person first. - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat140500050010&type=category&searchresults=1&searchterm=dell
Sure, I hope my review was helpful.
I'm not sure but the price might actually be better at Dell online.
I don't think Bestbuy is overly known for good prices either.
