Close Link - disabling alert

I have an href to close a page, which will result in a pop up survey. Therefore, I want to disable the automatic alert that comes up saying "The web page you are viewing is trying to close the window".

Does anyone know how to disable this alert?

This is easy enough to do...but, how would you like it if a pop-up window from a site closed your main browsing window? That window is really the user's window; I wouldn't return to any site that closed it (or stuck me in a redirect loop, another annoying behavior).
