In my 'temp internet files' there are a bunch of urls pointing to mainly gifs and jpgs that I can't delete:

e.g.

http://a692.g.akamai.net/7/692/809/fffc361b9f0664/ask.com/i/uninav/uninav_news_off.gif

Some of them relate to images in the browser window I have open but many do not.

Why can't I delete them? Or is there a way I can? Are they sneaky image files that are really spyware or something?

Some of them relate to images in the browser window I have open but many do not.

The obvious question (to me at least) is: have you tried shutting down your browser window and attempting to delete these files?

I have come across files like these myself - I shut down the browser window and delete them. Most times I am able to.

If I cannot, then I right-click and attempt the delete that way; sometimes it works.

As I mentioned, I know some of the files relate to what is currently in my open browser window.... "but many are not". Even when I close my browser window these 20 or so files refuse to be deleted. :(

Fair enough.

Have you tried: closing the open browser window, right-clicking on one of these problem files and renaming the file with an extension (such as .txt) instead of the .gif ? Then try to delete the file.

It won't allow me to rename them because they are not actually on my computer. This is confusing. The gif files are listed as if they are on my computer but in the column 'internet address' for each one it lists a url, e.g.

http://a692.g.akamai.net/7/692/809/82d2a94b7a8423/ask.com/i/uninav/uninav_web_on.gif

??

Interesting.

If you right-click that link you provided and go Properties, it gives you:

http:// ... /ask.com/i/uninav/uninav_web_on.gif in the body of the URL

Ask.com is the Ask Jeeves site.

Has the default Search feature in your browser been replaced with the Jeeves one ?
