Hi

I have a 600 MB .sql dump which I got from someone.

I need to import that .sql file to my database. PHPmyadmin does not allow that big files to import. The desktop based mysql client (SQLYog) which I am using to manage MySQL databases, also crashes while importing.

I am on a windows system. Could you please suggest me a better and effective way to import it?

Thanx in advance.

if you have access to a mysql client you can use something like that:

> use mydatabase;
> source mydumpfile;

mydatabase and mydumpfile are the name of the database and name of the dump file( not compressed).
you must drop and create the database before if already exists.

usualy dump file is a text file with mysql command like insert, create and so on.
try to open the file with a editor and see what command is on the line with that error.

I'm sorry, I don't use windows, I hope that somebody else will help you with that.
Some years ago, when I used windows, I use emacs to edit file, and I remember it work with files up to 8 M.

there is a program, split which can split the file into pieces with a given size but is for linux. I'm sure there is something like that for windows.

find this on the net but I don't know if work, or how:

http://www.vim.org/download.php#pc vim can handle it without breaking a sweat. I've used it to edit 40GB text files before.
