what do you mean by "freeze" ?

I suppose the poster is speaking of fixed rows and columns. This is kinda impossible with HTML tables, especially with columns. For rows have a loot at http://imaputz.com/cssStuff/bigFourVersion.html or http://cssplay.co.uk/menu/tablescroll.html

I'm confused more about the "and" from "first row and column", :)
I can't imagine a logical relation between cell content, when is scrolled, and content of first row and column when this are both fixed.
I guess that op have something in mind if he/she said or don't want them fixed in the same time.
