Well, I was just informed about a problem on my website.

For some reason the main webpages are totally out of whack for some users, while for others it works perfectly fine.

While discussing this with a member, he informed me that it works fine at his house but he goes down the street to his friends and it goes all out of wack.

Here are the screen shots.

http://www.vbteam.info/75416-post8.html

Instead of having to download the screen shots and re upload them I just linked you directly to the single post that has the screen shots on them. This is the same problem for several other users.

I am using html & css. Do you guys need to see the default.css and index.html codes to make an accurate analysis of what may be the problem?

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Well here ya go just in case you do need it.

<h1><u>Why Discuss Fringe Information:</u></h1>

<p>Now, as a fringe group owner you would expect me to believe in uncensorship. I do but maybe not in the same way that you do. I do not believe children under the age of 13 should be allowed access to such information(but hey its the age of the computers, either way it goes they are going to find the information). Still, I don't see how a 10 year old knowing how to build improvised explosives will benefit anything he does at that age. Thats where I stand on this.</p>

<p>Since the start of this forum; it has been my goal to bring a fringe website where the staff answer your questions with knowledgable responses. I guarentee that Revelation X has one of the best fringe forum staff groups on the internet. As a matter a fact majority of my staff carry more knowledge in their heads then majority of your fringe forum staff. Just look, Hex, Bohrium, Dynamo, Bahr on survival, Draven on his guilds. I mean have you seriously sat back and watched what I have done here(with some help) (shout to vex and dynamo). You can obviously note just by how my staff is setup on how I perceive fringe information. I want it to be accurate! I have done that!</p>

<p>I am not part of this to learn to blow up my next door neighbors house or how to poison someone. Neither is it about making different drugs or learning how to intrude someones residence unnoticed. I'm not here to turn myself into a criminal. I do this for 2 reasons:<br><br>

1. <b>The Information</b> - <i>As some of the greatest philosophers said "You can never be to intelligent".</i><br><br>

2. <b>Being Prepared</b> - <i>Ok, we get a mass invasion from another country or we break out into a revolution. How the hell else am I going to protect my family. With a fork and a spoon? Come on these idiots over in North Korea are giving guns to their 5 year old kids and teaching them everything we are discussing on this forum. I mean literally everyone in that damn country could fight in a war.</i></p>

<p>Now off course there will be individuals that will misuse this information. So, because people misuse information like this it should be banned and no one should be allowed to learn it? Well, while we are at it, lets take all the guns away because people misuse guns. Hell, lets go as far as to ban pencils, pens...</p>

Hello Mac Millie,
First thing I see is the floats are not cleared in #container. Change your CSS to this
.container {
font-size: 1.3em;
background: #000000;
margin: 0 auto;
width: 840px;
overflow: auto;
border: 9px solid #660000;
}
Now look again how FireFox shows it.
Read about clearing floats like that here (http://www.quirksmode.org/css/clearing.html).

It looks like most(?) of the rest of your problems are found by the validator. Check the links about validating in my sig below.

It all lays out nicely when you remove the .cse-branding...

drhowarddrfine

Also, XHTML1.1 must be served as xml and cannot be served as html. Needs to switch to xhtml1.0 doctype.

Apparently none of this is working, but I would like to think you guys for your assistance.

This is the validator information after all the edits

/index.html validator results (http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.revelationx29a.com%2Findex.html&profile=css21&usermedium=all&warning=1&lang=en)

default.css validator results (http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.revelationx29a.com%2Fdefault.css&profile=css21&usermedium=all&warning=1&lang=en)

currently no errors, but I do have some warnings with the .css that might seem to be a concern.

75 .left In (x)HTML+CSS, floated elements need to have a width declared. Only elements with an intrinsic width (html, img, input, textarea, select, or object) are not affected
78 .right In (x)HTML+CSS, floated elements need to have a width declared. Only elements with an intrinsic width (html, img, input, textarea, select, or object) are not affected

I am relatively new at this and I don't quite understand what this means.

Here is the new code. Edited just as you both suggested.
(I edited what drhoward suggested)

http://www.revelationx29a.com/index.html looks right in FF3, IE8, IE7 and IE6.

Just a couple things left:

The validators are coming back error. Just a few warnings though.

Your & 's should be changed to &amp;'s
Your </br>'s should be <br />'s
Your missing a closing tag for one of your divs.
there is no such thing as float:center;

drhowarddrfine
02-16-2009, 04:20 AM
This is not correct:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?

Now you are declaring HTML but using XHTML elements. Since everything is already written as XHTML, you should do this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

Note that, while the first line is correct usage, only modern browsers handle it correctly while IE6 will go into quirks mode and IE7 and IE8 ignore it altogether since they don't do XHTML. You can safely remove it.

I didn't see a response to the css errors.

currently no errors, but I do have some warnings with the .css that might seem to be a concern.

/* misc */
.clearer {clear: both;}
.main_right .padded {padding: 6px 2px 6px 16px;}
.main .padded {padding: 18px 24px;}
.meta {font-size: 1.0em; color: #666;}
.left {float: left;}
.right {float: right;}

What that is saying is on line 75 you have a class (.left) that doesn't have a width. As seen above, they are right. If you float something, it has to have a width. That width is either put in by you or taken from a contained image. You can change it to this:
.left {float:left; width:100px;} (using whatever the width you want)

You can also code it to a percentage "width:20%;" Same is true on the line 78 .right part as well.
