Couple CSS problems relating to IE6 and 7

Yes, I know tables are evil. LOL. Now that that's out of the way, I don't have the time to totally strip the tables right now, so I'm working with what I have.

Anyhoo, on to the problems:

The first one relates to the content element with the text in it. The one on the mainpage that reads "We hope you like our new site." In that table, I gave it an ID, and gave it 15px of padding. FireFox reads it like a champ and it looks great, however, in IE6 and IE7, it seems like they're just flat out ignoring it and won't render the padding. :mad:

Second problem relates to the "sticky" footer. In FF and IE7, it works great, but in IE6 for some reason, it's completely stretching the page way out further than it should be. :mad:

Arg... Can't the world just get rid of internet exploder already?!

I must point out that Excavator did a wonderful job in helping me get the sticky footer into this site. He provided a lot of insight and knowledge to get me going.

This layout is just working my nerves!

As the software is a pre-written shopping cart software, I'm afraid that if I go changing things, I'll break it.

I believe it's something in the CSS causing the page to go whacky in IE6...

As for the other thing where IE won't apply the padding, I don't have the faintest idea!

I got lost in the tons of nested tables. The 15 errors (HTML) turn into 86 (XHTML), but they may not be related to the problem. Hard to tell when you are knee deep in nested tables. I count 20 levels in places.

To make it easier for someone that wants to work with 90s layouts, I've pretty printed (formatted) your code so someone can see where something begins and ends. I use tabs so it will be a mess in here, but if you copy it to your editor it will be OK.

I'm not sure why this company used a ton of nested tables in their code instead of CSS, but it would be a ton of labor just cut out all the tables, I would think.

I might start going through them one at a time seeing if I can remove the tables. I don't really want to break anything though, and that's what I'm afraid of doing, especially since I'm not yet that well versed in CSS.

Please.

Anyone? This is driving me absolutely buggy, and I cannot figure out what's causing these problems.
