I'm interested in the <link/> element's use for extra navigation - Home, Index, Search and so on.
Anyone have good references on this subject - specifically with an accessibility angle, but generally which ones are available and any de-facto conventions on their use.

Brothercake,
the W3C of course, but knowing you a bit you've already been there; i did a search on "link element" and stumbled onto the following:
Navigating the WWW (http://www.euronet.nl/~tekelenb/WWW/LINK/) has something about using <link /> for navigation and seems to be recently updated.
Also some interesting links (!) on the bottom of the page.
Let us now how you fared?
Update: on SiteExperts - programming the link element (http://www.siteexperts.com/dhtml/ch9/chapter/part3.asp) is something about using script to use the link element for a toolbar in those browsers that don't support it (IE?)
www.diveintoaccessibility.org
Good articles on stuff like that.

Thanks both - yeah I did check w3c; what I was after was more of an idea of how they're being used in practise - whether any conventions have arisen that it would be sensible to adhere to.
So cool - I'll check those links out.
There's a links toolbar in moz isn't there? Any idea how to turn it on - and whether it's available for Phoenix?
View -> Show/Hide -> Site Navigation Bar -> Show Only As Needed (or Show Always)
There is a XUL extension for Phoenix to display it somewhere too.
