I have xubuntu and windows xp. Everything was working fine. Then, I changed my moniter and now xubuntu tells me my resolution is off. I can get into the terminal as root user ... but I need to know what the command is for switching the screen resolution. I can't seem to find it in a google search ... so I came to the awesome computer people here.
Help!!

Then, I changed my moniter and now xubuntu tells me my resolution is offWhat do you mean by that? What exactly happens when you try and change it via the GUI?
Try this:
xrandr -s 1024x768Although you might have to exit GNOME or KDE for that matter.
Note: To exit the X server try Ctrl + Alt + F2-6.
To get back into X, try Ctrl + Alt + F1

well I can't get to the gui actually. It tells me the range is out of sync but I can get to the root shell prompt from the boot menu. Then I don't know how to change the resolution but I'll try your suggestion. I tried xrander but the command is unknown. I've tried the xserver-xorg but it only gives me keyboard options and bypasses the monitor all together...
