HI! I need a little help! I have a problem why is it that when i add a little line in the SET JAVA_HOME path in my autoexec.bat everytime i load the msdos console in my windows me there always appear bad command file name and yet everything still works fine? Is it possible for me to use scanner to scan my document text with some drawings in my document and yet export it in the microsoft word? Do i need to use ocr? BTW, I am now thinking of buying a cd writer do you think that I should buy asus brand and use my cd writer as a cd rom also? Is it bad to use cd writer as a cd rom from time to time? Thanks for answering my problem.

If you want a global environmental variable you need to use the System applet in the Control Panel to set it up. Variables set up in the autoexec.bat file are usually only going to be present in DOS emulation sessions because the autoexec.bat file isn't normally processed during the Windows XP boot, starting a DOS emulation (Command Line) session is when that file gets processed.
Use OCR to get your text otherwise your whole page will be nothing but an image.
It's perfectly ok to use a cd writer as a cd drive, the drive will likely outlast your computer anyway.

OCR software is usually supplied with the scanner, usually a "light" version of a heavy duty OCR prodict which the vendor would love to sell you but unless you do OCR all the time you're unlikely to need.
Since I totally missed on the AUTOEXEC.BAT file (Windows ME uses that file unlike Windows XP), I misread the initial problem with that file anyway. Look at that file and verify that all the commands it specifies actually exist.
