display error with <div> layers and forms

Hi there!

I made a <div>-based popup dialogue and my problem is, that some form elements beneath (like combo boxes and buttons) are always on top. How can I avoid this? Is there a way to have the div layer on top of those form elements?

(I'm currently programming for Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0 and Mozilla)

Okay, I found some answers on my own, because this seems to be a problem which has been around for a couple of years (I made a search with google). Someone stated that drop-down list boxes (whatever) are likely to be always on top due to the fact that they are generated by the Windows GUI. Makes sense in a way.

But I managed a solution yesterday. I put into the <div> tag an <iframe>. And voilà... it works.
The contents of the iframe could be dynamically generated by JavaScript, but I created a separate HTML-file for that. It works fine :)
