Hello. I need to find a way to identify a stalker. I am pretty sure who it is but have no proof. I have their ip address from their frequent visits to my site and I have an email from them as well.

Is their anyway of using the two to prove who it is?

You could always use a gui interface?

No but seriously, you could look into http://www.ip2location.com/ it won't get you the persons name but if you really really had to you could... I dunno, get a compass and a map and a whip and go hunting at the co-ordinates?

That's pretty helpful, it's not entirely accurate, but it gets the city/town right.

If you then contact their ISP, you might be able to take action. The ISP probably won't disclose any information to you, but probably will investigate them. If you take it to the courts then they are forced to give you the information. However that's a bit extreme. So have a word with their ISP, and tell them about your problem. Hopefully they can fix it :)

Forcing information from someone, no matter whether they are stalking you or not, isn't ethical. The ISP won't investigate someone on your request, hell the RIAA are begging ISP's to talk to their customers about copyright infringements (which the ISP's are rightly denying... for now) so I doubt you'll have much luck.

Besides, if this harassment/stalking is just online to your website. Just redirect that IP away from your site. There are methods, most installed packages have a ban feature if not one of us can provide you with a script to do it.

I don't really understand the meaning of "stalker", what is doing?

agree with baning if is justified but not with redirection because this will harm the address where you redirect.

Well, the person has already been warned by the police and then charged with harassment, but this Christmas morning they broke into my fiancee's truck at 4 in the morning and turned on his plow light to wake us up and placed a decapitated bird by our front door.

I get about 30-40 hits a day on my site from the same ip address. This has been going on for 4 years.

It's getting tiring.

police could find if ip is owned by that person and also could talk with his isp.
I don't know how much traffic you have and how many hits on a page but 30-40 hits a day could be something usual and also is possible to have no connection with that person.
Anyway if you want to block a ip and your site use cpanel you have a option there but I guess the ip will be changed and you will run in the same problem after a time.

If you want to block the IP address from visiting your site, try putting this into .htaccess

order allow,deny
deny from IPADDRESSHERE
allow from allOnly use this however if you are sure that this is the person! Getting it wrong might result in you banning a harmless user from your site.
