New IE virus - Experts say switch browsers

BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7784908.stm) reports about new virus in IE:
Richard Cox, chief information officer of anti-spam body The Spamhaus Project and an expert on privacy and cyber security, echoed Trend Micro's warning.
"It won't be long before someone reverse engineers this exploit for more fraudulent purposes. Trend Mico's advice [of switching to an alternative web browser] is very sensible," he said.

Wasn't it the BBC who said something similar about Apple? Just saying...=P

I think that might have been because it didn't have anti-phishing but it wasn't the BBC. If there was a virus problem, it must have been fixed because I haven't heard anything about it since. Don't recall. In any case, this is not the BBC saying to switch.

It was that whole "Apple has been telling everyone to install antivirus" in response to "new threats" when it was, in fact, a support article which had practically always been there.

This isn't about a virus per se, it's a heap overflow allowing execution of arbitrary code when IE loads malicious XML. Apparently said XML is already out there on a lot of otherwise trustworthy sites due to CSS exploits, so yeah, if you're still using IE for whatever reason, reconsider.

(Not that every other browser hasn't had/doesn't currently have exploitable overflows, but this one is pretty hazardous right now)
