I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with BluRay. I am getting interested in Dirac and would like to write a small encoder for BluRay to Dirac but I suspect that its mind bogglingly hard to actually read the data off the disk lossless, due to copy protection.
- How hard actually is it? Are there any tools that can read the data itself (raw disk bytes or whatever video's equivalent of audio CD's PCM is, for example) that I can just pump straight into my own encoder? All I've found so far is AnyDVD HD but I haven't worked out if that can do lossless yet.
- Can something like dd help? (I remember that DVDs have data hidden on the lead in that is required to actually read the disk)
- If this is possible at all, does it need some kind of licensing (e.g. for a decryption key)?
Thanks all
