Hello,

I've just noticed that the mailto link no longer works in IE6. I'm getting a 'could not perform this operation because the mail client is not properly installed.'

We are using MS Outlook 2003.

This worked previously, and works perfectly in IE7, Mozilla and various other browsers on the same computer. So I don't think this is a coding issue, but a browser bug. Is there any way round this or does anyone have a mailto link that DOES work in IE6 that I can have a look at?

Thanks!

Nicky

Might be one of the reason why people not rely on mailto. Have you ever thought about users who do not have a mail client installed on their machine(like me :))?

You may use some html form for users to directly type in the webpage and some serverside mailing script(in PHP/ASP/JSP etc) to send the mail.

btw, google gives http://www.experts-exchange.com/Applications/Q_21207205.html, which maight be helpful (scroll down a lot to see the real comments)

I realise that some users do not have mail clients installed. However, using forms means that enormous amounts of spam area received, especially on high traffic sites.

This mail to (using Javascript) completely cuts out the spam, which makes a clients life a million times easier. This is why I need to stick to using this method. There will be a fix for IE6 issues. Spammers are getting more ingenious and now simply take scans of the form and submit it to your mailing script. I have not found anyone with a form solution that cannot be compromised.

Thanks,

Nicola

There are many techniques like captcha, question-answer system, etc to prevent spams in web forms.
