dynamic dns sortov...

Hi does anybody have a server side script in php or mysql that could do the following to act as a free dynamic dns name

get the ip address every hour or so
and then
create an html file and ftp it to a server

I know just about didly squat about php and mysql except what it is, how to make it work with windows 2000 server, and little more than that

is It posible to do that in php would I need to actually have some java or c++ program to run on the server, and do that. I don't know if php can run continuously like that on a server.

I am just trying to weasle out of needing to buy dynamic dns service, since my previous dsl provider (wich gave free static ip)(directv) just droped about 150,000 costomers, and now I am stuck with the monopoly in my area sbc pacbell

You'd probably be better off writing a stand-alone application. Since you couldnt really have a PHP script running continuously.

Unless you set a meta tag on the page that would refresh every hour or whatever. And when the page refreshed, the PHP code would be ran. But then you'd need to make sure you kept the page open in the browser.

yah, thats what I assumed. could somebody give me the code in java or something, I don't have a compiler, so whatever language it is give me a link to some compiler for it (free would be very nice)

You could run a Perl script to do that if you are running a UNIX based server (it could run as a cron task every hour), Then it could modify and FTP the HTML file directly from the script

im using windows 2000 server. but its ok since I changing around stuff and if i want to use it i figured a really simple way with php and mysql to do something similer
