Looking for ideas and/or partner to develop a few sites I just purchased:
TORONTO.AC
OTTAWA.AC
ONTARIO.AC
MONTREAL.AC
QUEBEC.AC
CALGARY.AC
EDMONTON.AC
VANCOUVER.AC
These can be a city portals or something else. If you are interested to join this project, contact me. No need for investment at this time, I already set things up technically (domain purchased, web hosting and desigh templates)
City names in the .CA (canada) registration are reserved which means they cannot be owned by individuals. So by switching the two domain letters I ended up with .AC
After some research, I discovered that .AC domains have been branded as AlwaysConnected.
For example: TORONTO.AC should read Toronto (dot always connected)
This can be the beginning of a nice project. I'm open to all suggestion and of course there's an equity stake for those that participate.
Post a reply and let's get started!

What would your partner do? What are the qualifications? How will your partner be compensated?

For this project, nothing has been decided yet. I'm looking for people that are willing to contribute time and effort to this project in exchange for ownership. I can't afford to pay salaries so everyone will act as partners. Some will contribute on a part-time basis others full-time. Some will take care of technical stuff while others may take care of marketing and other stuff.
Once the team has been and the project has been decided, we will discuss the ownership issue and then begin the project. I maybe willing to invest some money in marketing or outsourcing some of the programming but this will be limited.
From past experience as a web developper myself, the payout was always more for me when I came into a project with no pay but had ownership instead of getting paid for the actual work. This is a risk-reward proposition that some may not understand but those that have the right skills and can see the value will understand.

Maybe this is what you think, but I disagree greatly. Projects without certain payment often end up unpaid. Even if it is a risk, you still have no idea if its ever going to provide some money or incentive to the developer.
Also, a project with no goals is not a project. I have the skills, but I don't understand the value of doing this project. If you aren't able to provide a real idea, then quality candidates won't look at your request. This is as much for your information as those who want to join such a request, but think of it like this: would you ever get hired without knowing if you will get paid, as well as not knowing what you will be doing? This is a bit crazy. I'm also not ready to just throw ideas out there which I have, because why would I want my idea to be used by someone else for profit or gain without me? There are no real provisions or safeguards with this work.
I suggest that you evaluate some of your options, and provide a good concept before recruiting people. I would love to join projects, if I see they have potential and that I won't be wasting my time, even if the reward isn't always monetary.

Hey jeremywilken,
Here are a few replies to your comments. Hope this clarifies things for others as well.
>>Projects without certain payment often end up unpaid. Even if it is a risk, you still have no idea if it’s ever going to provide some money or incentive to the developer.
I disagree but I understand your comments and it’s great to be cautious before committing to something. As mentioned in my post the partnership will need to be established in some form before getting started so as to minimize risk for everyone.
>>Also, a project with no goals is not a project.
The goals are what we are trying to establish collectively before getting started. Instead of dictating an idea to everyone, I'm looking for everyone's input - especially those that will work on the project. After the idea is determined, the goals can be listed. I think your above statement should be “a project without a plan is not a project”. First part of the plan is the discovery phase.
>>I'm also not ready to just throw ideas out there which I have, because why would I want my idea to be used by someone else for profit or gain without me? There are no real provisions or safeguards with this work.
The websites are straight forward….city names. There is only so much we can do with them. I’m not looking to steal ideas from anyone. Instead I’m trying to engage people that might be interested and have some free time like myself. Here some ideas given so far:
- a city portal such as (Toronto.com)
- a yellow-pages style directory
- a singles site
- a local classifieds
- a restaurant and nightlife guide for each city
>>I suggest that you evaluate some of your options, and provide a good concept before recruiting people. I would love to join projects, if I see they have potential and that I won't be wasting my time, even if the reward isn't always monetary.
Great! I would love to have you on board but I guess for this initial phase you will need to sit this one out and let others and I determine the scope of this project and ownership terms. You can then join in after all has been decided…maybe things will seem clearer for you to make a decision to join or not...but all I’m saying is that after its decided your input such as “we should have thought of doing this instead of that” will no longer have much weight. I don’t mean to be rude; it’s just that we are exploring those comments now in the discovery phase.

Hi IamCanadian,
Now I am pretty clear with your idea. U can also have a Local news section . Because people look for local news more than International news .This is because we can easily have the International news. There are a number of Websites which talk about International events, but only a few when it comes to local news.
Also u can also Fan clubs of local sports teams , forums, blogs, wishes and greetings , local realestate listings etc. There is a lot of scope for the such websites .but above all you must be damn sure about what you are goin to do , Your ideologies, your values else as jeremywilken said your project will not be a project .. and it will end up unpaid . I will be happy to join your team and work on your project.
