Web page part of domain name or not?

Hi,

I came across this site: http://www.betranslated.com which has a directory for submiting sites at: http://resources.betranslated.com.

Is the resources page a web page of the main site: www.betranslated.com?

It appears that the resources page is under a different domain. How can they have a domain name with dots in?

Can someone explain how they managed to achieve this if it is a page within the main site, of putting the web page before the domain name.

I'm sure the answer is clear, but just can't figure it out.

Its called a subdomain

Thanks for that, just researching the pros and cons of subdomains as we speak.

Basically subdomains are separate websites from a web server perspective and they can even be on different servers.

They just make it look like the new website is connected with an overarching website. Like Yahoo and Google do it with a lot of their subservices.
