Ajax isn't a language period, it is a programing methodology. It stands for Asynchronous Javascript and XML.

Aasynchronous
1. How did you manage to spell that?
2. What does it mean?

Oh yes, I would go for Javascript.

1. It is called a misspelling when I forgot to remove the lower case a when I went to capitalize the word.
2. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/asynchronous

I'd go for javascript as it can add quite a lot to your websites and designs if used effectively.

As I said, ajax is not a language. You use javascript to implement the client side portion of the AJAX methodology. You also need a server side language to implement the server side of the process that actually sends the XML response.

would suggest to learn bit of javascript... no need to master it (good if you like) but good to have some understanding so you can modify and integrate javascipts to your site. javascript would be really helpful with php... then with just reading few pages you can learn AJAX
